Battery Replacement Guide for E-Scooters and E-Motorcycles: What You Need to Know
Choosing the Right Battery for Your E-Scooter, Mobility Scooter, or E-Motorcycle: Why It Matters
When it comes to powering your electric scooter, mobility scooter, or e-motorcycle, using the right battery is crucial. At Derand Motorsports, we use Lead Acid Deep Cycle batteries sourced directly from the manufacturer. These batteries offer durability and reliability, ensuring your ride performs at its best. However, understanding battery care and replacement costs is key to getting the most out of your vehicle.
Battery Options and Replacement Costs
We offer several battery options depending on your scooter's needs. Here’s a breakdown of the costs for battery replacements:
- 12 volts / 20 Ah - $110 + HST
- 12 volts / 32 Ah - $169 + HST
- 12 volts / 45 Ah - $249 + HST
- 12 volts / 58 Ah - $289 + HST
Labor for installation is priced at $95/hr, with most models requiring 1-2 hours to complete.
How to Calculate Battery Replacement Costs
Our products run on systems that include 48V, 60V, 72V, and 84V configurations. Each battery in these systems is 12 volts, so to calculate the replacement cost for your specific system, divide the voltage by 12.
For example, if you have a 60-volt, 20Ah SLA scooter, you'll need five 12-volt batteries (60 ÷ 12 = 5). The total cost for just the batteries would be $550 + HST.
Manufacturer-Supplied Batteries Only
We strongly recommend using batteries supplied directly from the manufacturer. These come with a 6-month manufacturer warranty to ensure peace of mind. However, the warranty is valid only if proper battery care is followed, including:
- Avoid overcharging
- Do not leave the battery exposed to the elements
- Do not drain the battery beyond its capacity
Improper care can shorten your battery’s lifespan and lead to costly repairs.
Avoiding Problems: Why You Shouldn’t Go Cheap
It might be tempting to purchase cheaper batteries online from platforms like Amazon, but we strongly advise against this. Using non-manufacturer batteries can lead to several problems, such as:
- Power supply issues – affecting your vehicle’s performance
- Durability concerns – often resulting in more frequent replacements
- Compatibility issues – cheaper batteries may not be compatible with your specific model, leading to malfunctions or damage
- Potential damage – to your vehicle’s electrical system
At Derand Motorsports, we have a team of skilled and experienced technicians trained to safely and efficiently replace these batteries. This ensures that your battery is installed correctly, so your e-scooter, mobility scooter, or e-motorcycle continues to run smoothly.
Sticking with manufacturer-recommended batteries and relying on expert installation guarantees you the best power, reliability, and proper compatibility for your vehicle.
