Ontario bylaws on Electric Bikes?
E-bikes operating in Ontario must adhere to specific requirements, encompassing a maximum assisted speed of 32 km/h, a weight under 120 kg (inclusive of the bike and battery), and an electric motor not exceeding 500 watts. Any modifications to the motor that would exceed these limits are prohibited. Additionally, the battery and motor must be securely fastened to the bike frame, electrical terminals properly insulated, and the bike must meet minimum wheel width and diameter standards. Essential safety features include two independent braking systems, capable of halting the e-bike within 9 meters from a speed of 30 km/h on level asphalt using both wheels.
Do I need a license for a Electric Scooter or Electric Motorcycle?
Derand's range of electric scooters and e-motorcycles fall under the electric bike category, exempting them from license requirements. This classification is attributed to factors like motor size, a top speed of 32km/h, and the inclusion of pedal shafts.
What is Pedal Assist on E-Bikes?
A standard electric bike usually offers pedal assist modes ranging from 1-3, 1-5, or 1-9. Each mode provides varying levels of assistance. For instance, pedal assist 1 often replicates the sensation of pedaling a regular bike, as it offsets the e-bike's weight. On the other hand, pedal assist 5 demands minimal to no effort to propel your bike forward.
Are Electric Bikes Waterproof
No, they aren't waterproof, but they are water-resistant. It's crucial not to mix up the two terms. Waterproof signifies water cannot permeate an object, while water-resistant implies water has difficulty passing through, although it's not entirely impossible. If you do find yourself caught in the rain, don't worry – simply ensure that when you return home, you dry your bike or scooter with a cloth.
Difference between a Mid-Drive and a Rear Hub motor?
Mid-Drive motors are suitable for more sporty riders, positioned by the pedals to conquer diverse terrains with enhanced torque. Rear Hub motors, nestled within the wheel hub, offer simplicity but may have limitations on inclines. Your decision should align with your preferred terrain and personal taste.
What is Derand's Warranty?
Derand's electric bikes feature a 1-year parts warranty that exclusively addresses manufacturing defects. Additionally, when you opt for the Assembly fee at $99 during checkout, you unlock an extra advantage: a 1-year Labor warranty valid at any Derand location.
Can I still get exercise on Electric Bikes?
Absolutely! Electric bikes provide a fantastic opportunity to combine exercise with assisted riding. While you can enjoy the assistance from the motor, you can also choose to pedal and contribute your effort, getting a workout tailored to your preference and fitness level. It's a wonderful way to stay active while exploring the outdoors.
Where can I get service?
One of the prevalent errors we often come across is individuals purchasing electric scooters, kick scooters, or electric bikes from platforms like Amazon or non-local online stores. This can lead to frustration when servicing becomes a challenge. At Derand, you can put such worries to rest. With two service centers situated in Ottawa, we exclusively serve our customers, guaranteeing swift and efficient assistance.
Does an Electric Bike's weight matter?
An electric bike's weight undoubtedly matters, hinging on its designated use. If you foresee regular car loading, a lighter model suits well, though it might feature smaller motor and battery components. Conversely, for enhanced range and power, a heavier e-bike accommodates larger components. To fully exploit your bike's potential, consider its capabilities; if your battery covers 40 or 100km in range, plan your trip accordingly to avoid relying solely on manual pedaling for the return journey.
What is the purpose of Fat-Tire Electric Bikes?
The basic concept behind fat tires is to offer an increased surface area, enhancing a bike's ability to navigate specific terrains such as snow or sand.
